Week 4: Music Idea

Music Idea:

The other day, I was home from school sick. Out of the blue, Elise texted and asked me if I could learn a song on the drums. For context, I've been learning how to play the drums for a little while now. My dad got me an electronic drum set for my birthday last year, and I've been teaching myself how to play ever since. I'm no professional, so I was a little surprised when she asked me.

Apparently, Mr. Z was playing his guitar when she came into class that day, and she sung along with him. She does opera and musical theatre, so she's really good. They had the idea of playing an acoustic version of Creep by Radiohead and implementing it into our film, and I'm 100% on board. This would likely replace Paranoid Android, since that song's way too complex to try and recreate.

For the past few days, I've been learning the song. It's pretty simple, so it didn't take me long. I'm not exactly sure when we're recording the music, but I'm ready whenever they are. Elise mentioned getting permission from Radiohead themselves, but I'm not sure that's going to work out.

Creep:

This song explores feelings of self-loathing and alienation, frequent themes throughout Radiohead's discography. Viewing oneself as a "creep" or a "weirdo", this track serves as an anthem of self deprecation and idolization of others. The song describes treating one's romantic interest as an angel, a superior being, in comparison to their own inferior self image. Written by Thom Yorke, this track stems directly from his personal experiences and feelings.
